  • What is Brain Endurance Training (BET)

    Brain Endurance Training is the use of cognitive load, in the form of technology-based drills, to train and create adaptations in the brain. Brain Endurance Training does exactly what its name suggests. It gives athletes more mental capacity to handle more physical load for longer periods of time. This is not a 'trick' to the brain. It is not a question of being tough either. This is a systematic and methodical training approach that requires commitment, knowledge and a good deal of execution. You can not 'play' with drills and call it BET. BET is hard work. Like hard strength work, you need LOAD (on the brain) to achieve the adaptations you want.

  • Do you offer a free trial?

    We do not have a free trial of Soma NPT or a freemium model for the app. There are a few reasons for this. The application of BET and therefore SOMA NPT's use, requires some foundational knowledge. It makes no sense to open up the platform to allow people to play with the tech, you wouldn't know where to start and what to do. This would not be beneficial to your understanding and application of BET and it could even be frustrating. In order to give you some foundational knowledge around BET we provide the Free Course to get you started. This enables you to make an informed decision about BET and if it is the right time for you to implement it into your training regime. We have undertaken a substantial amount of studies with Soma NPT and we know it works. There is a huge number of mental fatigue research that supports mental fatigue training in athletes. There is not really a need for you to 'test' it out and 'see if it works' we know it does. We want you to succeed. Giving free trials often leads to a lack of compliance long term. If something is free we respect it less, we procrastinate more. Your success with BET depends on your commitment to learning and the actual hard work around implementation. People who pay for that privilege are more likely to see it through and get the results they want. We put time and energy into each customer. We answer individual emails and provide ongoing support. We want to know our time is going into those who are committed to doing the work.

  • What is Soma NPT?

    The APP which is the Training Tool iPhone & iPad The cognitive tasks within Soma NPT are used to induce mental fatigue (which are the core of BET program) they were chosen based on their effect on specific areas of the brain and how they target specific cognitive functions. Soma NPT has built all of its cognitive tasks following the guidelines of these validated tasks.

  • What is Soma Analytics?

    Soma Analytics is the web-based back-end where the training data from the app is held, can be analysed, analytical reports are generated and BET programs can be created.

  • How is Soma NPT validated ?

    In the last decade, several scientific publications have proven how mental fatigue affects sport performance. The cognitive tasks they used to induce mental fatigue (which are the core of BET program) were chosen based on their effect on specific areas of the brain and how they target specific cognitive functions. These tasks were delivered using computer –based devices. SOMA NPT has built all of its cognitive tasks following the guidelines of these validated tasks. Moreover, we have built an extensive data set (soon published) that proves how all SOMA NPT tasks produce the same effects as of those computer based tasks and can be used in BET programs. Since the beginning of 2018 we have aimed to make SOMA NPT a science based application and thus we are striving to produce scientific research output that proves the quality and efficacy of this product.

  • What does BET actually do for my sport and is it only working for endurance athletes?

    BET is a training designed to increase resilience to fatigue. As the name states it helps your brain to endure more when the negative effects of tiredness and mental fatigue start kicking in. In this perspective, this training is not designed to target a specific motor ability, which then you transfer in your specific sport. Instead, it is a utility is to boost your mental toughness and neurocognitive ability to sustain more effort during any sport performance. As matter of fact, one of the main features of this type of training is that your perception of effort while performing a sport at a given load/speed/power is reduced. A natural consequence of a reduced effort is that you will last longer (smaller decrease in performance due to fatigue) in any type of mental or physical exercise.

  • How does the test/drill transfer?

    The transfer of BET is a generic ability of your brain to sustain a high level of fatigue and still perform at an appropriate level. Science has demonstrated how physical and mental fatigue share common areas of the brain that activate. In other words, either you are tired because you have done a long run or you feel fatigued because a long day in front of your computer or a sleep deprived night, the sense of fatigue you will feel it is always generated by the same area of the brain. So you can train your brain to be more resistant to fatigue through targeted cognitive drills and your physical performance will benefit from it.

  • How does BET make an Athlete better in their Sport?

    BET is a cognitive training specifically designed to increase your resilience toward the sense of fatigue. It works on the principle that the sense of fatigue develops in certain areas of the brain that can be targeted by specific cognitive tasks and can induce an adaptation in the brain which will make the athlete more resistant. Sense of fatigue is a key component in sport because it critically alters performance by increasing the perception of effort in completing a specific action (both physical and mental).
