Why we created this course 

This course is designed for coaches and trainers who are ready to make Brain Endurance Training a part of their training protocol. Our technology is specifically designed for the easy implementation of BET and therefore we have included a substantial amount of information on the optimal use of Soma NPT, Soma NPT Vision and Soma Analytics. These two products contain enormous potential and navigating them without fundamental knowledge of BET would be too difficult. 

Initially, we did on-board and teach our coaches personally. What we found was that the amount of time a coach or trainer needed to commit to a personal onboard was too invasive. We also found that a lot of coaches had the same questions and required the same things from us. Therefore, we decided to build a course that you could work through at your own pace. A course that can stay relevant, by being updated when needed. A course that you don't have to make an appointment for. 

Convenience is important as it leads to adherence. We want you to master our technology and understand BET as well as we do. 


Things to keep in mind about the onboarding course:

  • There is a large portion of the course dedicated to explaining how to use Soma NPT, Soma NPT Vision and the Soma Analytics. As these are the tools that provide BET to your athletes, you need to be very very familiar with them. 
  • We assume that by paying for this course and participating, that you are intending to use Soma NPT, Soma NPT Vision and Soma Analytics for your athletes.
  • Brain Endurance Training is a heavy subject matter. It requires an in-depth course to cover it properly. We have made a big effort to take the fluff out and provide you with what is most essential and relevant. Therefore it is important that you go through the course in its entirety. There is nothing in here that you don't need, you need it all.
  • You can still get in touch with us as and when you need to. This course does not replace our client care, rather it is a resource that means we can be even more available to you.

    Soma NPT (Neuro Performance Technology) is a training app designed to train the brain of an athlete or high performing individual. The cognitive tasks within Soma NPT are used to induce cognitive fatigue (which are the core of a BET program) they were chosen based on their effect on specific areas of the brain and how they target specific cognitive functions. Soma NPT has built all of its cognitive tasks following the guidelines of these validated tasks. This is the best brain training app for training and improving mental toughness and mental resilience particularly for sports performance and for those individuals who work in high performance industries. Soma NPT is complemented by an athlete monitoring system called Soma Analytics. This system monitors cognitive performance and cognitive fatigue levels and links directly to Soma NPT.

  • What is Soma NPT Vision?

    Soma NPT vision is a sports vision training app that uses eye tracking technology to train the vision of an athlete or high performing individual as well as training the brain for more mental toughness and mental resilience. The cognitive tasks in Soma Vision are driven by the eyes. This technology therefore combines the benefits of sports vision training along with cognition. Sports vision is a popular tool used in many elite sports today, however until now, there has not been a training app that offers sports vision training with eye tracking technology. Most systems are one dimensional, only offer a handful of drills and are large and expensive. Soma vision is built in app form and can be used anywhere at any time. Soma Vision has its own analytics athlete monitoring system like Soma NPT.

  • What is Soma Analytics?

    Soma Analytics is the web-based back-end where the training data from the app is held, can be analysed, analytical reports are generated and Brain Endurance Training programs can be created. This athlete monitoring system is designed for the coach, to monitor an athletes cognitive fatigue levels and ensure they are in the right range of fatigue in order to achieve more mental toughness and mental resilience. Soma analytics links athlete to coach directly through the sports tech. The coach can design and send programs straight to the device of the athlete. This is cognitive athlete monitoring.     Soma NPT and Soma Breathe are available on iPhone and iPad and Soma Vision is available on iPhones and iPads with face recognition technology.

    All data is held encrypted on our servers in Switzerland. All athletes can be monitored, reports sent and programmes made remotely from the analytical back end, this increases compliance.

  • How does Brain Endurance Training (BET) make an Athlete better in their Sport?

    BET works on the principle that the sense of fatigue develops in certain areas of the brain that can be targeted by specific cognitive tasks and can induce an adaptation in the brain which will make the athlete more resistant. Sense of fatigue is a key component in sport because it critically alters sports performance by increasing the perception of effort in completing a specific action (both physical and mental). When we talk about mental toughness, we talk about the ability of an individual or athlete to withstand their feelings of fatigue and still have a high level of performance. By training the brain to fatigue we are forcing it to adapt to higher fatigue levels. This is the same principle we use when training the body. We train cognitive fatigue to the right level to induce an adaptive response in the brain and therefore a greater resilience to both mental and physical fatigue.

  • Why do we get better physically from a brain training app?

    Fatigue is generated in an area of the brain regardless of the source of fatigue. So mental fatigue and physical fatigue are felt in the same part of the brain. This is why you can feel physically exhausted after a mentally or emotionally laboured event, even when you have not moved your body much at all. The area of the brain where fatigue develops can be targeted by cognitive training drills. Targeting this area can make it more resilient to fatigue. Like a gym for that area of the brain, you get better at handling mental fatigue.

    Brain Endurance Training (BET) is a training designed to increase resilience to fatigue. As the name states it helps your brain to endure more when the negative effects of tiredness and mental fatigue start kicking in. One of the main features of this type of training is that your perception of effort while performing a sport at a given load/speed/power is reduced. A natural consequence of a reduced effort is that you will last longer (smaller decrease in performance due to fatigue) in any type of mental or physical exercise. Just as there is a right way and a wrong way to prepare an athletes body for sport, it is important to make the same distinction for training the brain. Brain endurance training is made up of cognitive tasks that have been around for a very long time. Brain games in other brain training apps and mental coaching are not the same as Brain Endurance Training (BET). BET has little to do with the psychology of sport and nothing to do with the brain games trend we are seeing today. BET is the targeted and deliberate fatiguing of the brain with specific cognitive tasks. In any high level sport, athletes are constantly pushing the limits in order to perform at their best.
